Central govt opposes Sonam Wangchuk's petition for virtual hearing in top court
New Delhi, Dec. 9 -- The Centre on Monday said that an exception cannot be made for climate activist Sonam Wangchuk seeking permission to appear virtually from jail to challenge his detention order in the Supreme Court as this will lead to similar requests from similarly placed detenues and convicts undergoing sentence in jail. A bench of justices Aravind Kumar and NV Anjaria agreed to take up this matter on Monday as senior advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for Wangchuk's wife Gitanjali Angmo requested for an order to be passed. Already, the court permitted Wangchuk to be impleaded in his wife's matter last month....
