Celebratory firing: Four in jail after clip of 8-month-old incident goes viral
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 5 -- A case of celebratory firing has taken a serious turn after a video of the incident went viral on social media, leading to police action and the arrest of four individuals.
According to police officials, a video showing people engaging in celebratory gunfire in the Mutthiganj area was shared on social media platform X by a user named Ravi Shukla on Sunday. Taking cognizance of the viral clip, the local police initiated an inquiry.
Sub-Inspector Abhishek Verma of Mutthiganj police station traced the video to a location near the house of one Vimal Panda. Further investigation revealed that the video was recorded about seven to eight months ago. Once the authenticity of the video was confirmed, Malviya Nagar police outpost in-charge, sub-inspector Rahul Kumar Singh, filed a case against Vimal Sharma alias Vimal Panda, Rajat Jaiswal, Abhishek Dhuriya, and two unidentified persons under relevant sections of law. Station house officer (SHO) of Mutthiganj police station Arun Kumar said that four accused- Nitin alias Himanshu Sahu, Rohit Sahu, Abhishek Dhuriya, and Lalle Dhuriya - have been arrested and sent to jail on Monday for disturbing public peace. The main accused, Vimal, is still absconding.
The SHO further clarified that the earlier naming of Rajat Jaiswal in the FIR was a case of mistaken identity, as the youth seen in the video was later identified as Nitin alias Himanshu Sahu.
Police have appealed to the public to refrain from celebratory firing, warning that such acts are both dangerous and punishable by law. htc...
