CEC urged to take action against Union min for 'hate speech'
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 24 -- Two lawyers of the Allahabad high court have petitioned the chief election commissioner (CEC) to take action against Union textile minister Giriraj Singh for his alleged hate speech while addressing an election rally in Bihar's Arwal district on October 18 where he alleged termed Muslim community as "Namak Haram" (betrayers).
Advocate KK Roy and advocate Charlie Prakash, a member of Adhivakta Manch and People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), said that Singh had also claimed during his speech that the Muslim community received benefits of welfare schemes of the Modi's government but did not vote for the BJP.
In the last Bihar election also, Giriraj Singh had allegedly said that Muslims should be sent to Pakistan if they did support the BJP. The two lawyers stated that under the model code of conduct no political parties or candidates shall engage in any activity that creates mutual hatred between communities. Besides, it was also an offence under section 123 (3) and section 125 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and an offence under section 153 A of IPC (196 of BNS), 295 - A of IPC (299 of BNS) and Section 505(2) of IPC (353 of BNS), they claimed.
They have urged the ECI to take immediate action by restraining the Union minister from delivering any further public or election-related speeches during the ongoing Bihar assembly election process and to direct registration of an FIR against him for his alleged hate speech....
