CBI books two ex-CGST superintendents in DA case
LUCKNOW, March 25 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered two separate disproportionate assets (DA) cases against former superintendents of the central goods and services tax (CGST) in Jhansi, months after their arrest in a major bribery racket unearthed by the agency on December 31, 2025.
The fresh cases were lodged by the CBI's anti-corruption branch (ACB), Lucknow, on Monday following a written complaint submitted by additional superintendent of police Ranu Choudhary after finding details regarding their disproportionate assets while investigating the previous case of bribery racket. The two former superintendents, Ajay Kumar Sharma and Anil Tiwari were then arrested along with some other people including Prabha Bhandari, a 2016-batch Indian Revenue Service (Customs Indirect Taxes) officer posted as deputy commissioner at CGST Jhansi.
In the first DA case, Ajay Kumar Sharma has been accused of accumulating assets worth Rs.1,40,20,630 during the same period. His expenditure was pegged at Rs.24,62,478 against an income of Rs.1,10,84,884, leading to alleged disproportionate assets amounting to Rs.3,53,98,224.
In a parallel case, Anil Kumar Tiwari is accused of amassing assets worth Rs.1,45,76,840 between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2025. htc...
