Cattle smuggler, six others booked for Rs.10L extortion, death threats
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 9 -- A case involving the demand for an extortion of Rs.10 lakh and issuing life threats has been registered against known cattle smuggler Mohd Muzaffar and six others at Nawabganj police station in the trans-Ganga area of the district on Thursday night.
According to police, the FIR was filed by Kundan Kumar Singh Yadav, husband of former Kaudihar village head Sunita Yadav.
Taking swift action, police have launched an investigation after registering the FIR under charges of extortion and other related offences, said Raghvendra Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Nawabganj police station.
As per the complaint, Kundan Kumar Singh, son of Rammoorti Singh and a resident of Fatuha Pur Uphaar village, is the legal owner and occupant of a plot in the same village. A few years ago, he mortgaged the property to obtain a Rs.10 lakh loan from the Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, Hathigahan branch. Since then, two rooms and a verandah have been built on the land.
Kundan alleged that on June 23, 2025, a group led by Mohd Muzaffar arrived at the property in a premeditated act, armed with weapons. The group reportedly included Muzaffar's nephews Zaid and Faiz from Chafri village, Haseen, Shameem, and Sayeem from Fatuha Pur Uphaar village, and one Sonu, said the SHO.
Kundan informed that the group threatened him and demanded Rs.10 lakh as extortion. When he refused, they allegedly took control of the property, locked the rooms, and warned him to vacate or face dire consequences. During the altercation, Sonu allegedly fired at Kundan with a country-made pistol, but he escaped unharmed. Hearing his cries for help, villagers rushed to the spot, prompting the assailants to flee while hurling abuses and issuing death threats, the complaint stated.
Initially too afraid to report the incident, Kundan later submitted a formal written complaint to Nawabganj police. According to the police, further investigation is currently underway....
