LUCKNOW, Dec. 7 -- A 35-year-old caterer was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a mango orchard in Mal police station limits on Saturday morning, prompting police to register a case and launch a search for four unidentified suspects. According to the family members, the deceased, Chhotu (Mahendra Gupta), a resident of Rajgarh village, had left home on Friday afternoon saying he was heading toward Pakda Bazaar. When he failed to return home by night, his family grew alarmed. "On Saturday morning, police received information that a young man's body was lying in an orchard in Amlauli village. A team reached the spot and identified the body as Mahendra's," read a police official statement. Officers said the body bore injury marks, and his clothes were torn, suggesting a possible assault. Liquor sachets and a water bottle were also recovered from the spot. His family had lodged a missing person report the previous night. According to Mahendra's brother, Sarvesh, the victim had made a distress call to the family on Friday evening, alleging that Shubham, son of Ramkumar of Devari Gaja village, along with four unidentified associates, had forced him to consume poison. The call dropped soon after, and the family was unable to trace his location. "Based on the written complaint filed by Sarvesh, Mal police have registered Case No. 328/25 under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Shubham and four unidentified men," said Mal SHO Nawab Ahmed. "Police await the post-mortem examination report to determine the exact cause of death as the probe continues," he added. In an official statement, Lucknow Police confirmed that Shubham has been detained for detailed questioning, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest the four others named in the complaint. "Multiple police teams have been deployed to investigate all angles of the case and carry out necessary legal action," the statement said. Relatives alleged that Mahendra appeared to have been beaten and then poisoned, claiming the orchard may not have been the original crime scene. Htc...
