Cash, jewellery worth over Rs.50L stolen in triple burglary
PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 17 -- Thieves burgled three houses, including that of a lawyer, in Gonde village under Nagar Kotwali police station in Pratapgarh on Sunday night, decamping with cash and jewellery worth over Rs.50 lakh.
The burglars allegedly entered the houses through the roof and locked the rooms from outside to prevent the occupants from waking up. The incident came to light on Monday morning when family members found their rooms locked and noticed signs of a break-in.
According to police, the thieves first targeted the house of Satish Singh, brother of Lal Pratap Singh, and stole valuables worth over Rs.25 lakh, including cash and jewellery. They then broke into the nearby residence of Sher Bahadur Singh and fled with jewellery worth around Rs.5 lakh.
The third house targeted was that of Dhruv Pratap Singh, from where cash and jewellery valued at over Rs.25 lakh were reportedly stolen. On receiving information, CO (City) Shivnarayan Vais, Nagar Kotwali SHO Subhash Yadav, and Chilbila outpost in-charge Laxmikant Sengar reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry. A forensic team examined the crime scenes and collected evidence.
Four members of a gang were arrested on Monday in connection with the jewellery shop theft in Sadar Bazaar. A joint team of Cantonment Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) made the arrests near Kali Paltan Baba's Kuti. Gold and silver ornaments worth several lakh rupees were recovered. Two accused are still absconding.
DCP (City) Manish Shandilya said the theft took place on the night of February 12 at the shop of Priyanshu Verma of Ganganagar Nevada. CCTV footage identified the accused. Those arrested are Gaurav Kannaujiya alias Mukul, Bakridul Sheikh alias Popo, Samiul Sheikh alias Chhotu and Parvez Alam alias Tausif. Police recovered 450 grams of gold, 1.8 kg of silver, two motorcycles and an iron rod used in the crime. Two more suspects, Asad and Neeraj, are being traced.
Police on Sunday arrested a woman accused of being part of a gang that stole jewellery and mobile phones worth several lakhs during the engagement ceremony of a judge's nephew at Hotel Kanha Shyam in Civil Lines two years ago.
The accused, identified as Bina Bai of Madhya Pradesh, had been absconding since the incident. A reward of Rs.25,000 had been announced for her arrest.
According to police, the theft took place on May 12, 2022, when gold ornaments, precious gemstones and a mobile phone were stolen during the ceremony. An FIR was lodged on the complaint of Chandra Prakash Kesarwani of Muir Road. During the investigation, CCTV footage and other evidence led to the arrest of five alleged gang members-Jackie Kumar Sansi, Kunal, Santosh Sansi and Kohinoor Sansi, all residents of Kadiya Sasi village under Boda Rajgarh police station in Madhya Pradesh and Ramu Patel of Chak Raghunath in Naini, Prayagraj. During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed Bina Bai's involvement. Civil Lines SHO Ramashray Yadav said she had been on the run for two years. Acting on a tip-off, a police team arrested her on Sunday....
