Case registered against Karni Sena leader for objectionable remarks against SP MP
Meerut, July 22 -- A case has been registered against Yogendra Singh Rana who claims to be the national vice-president of Karni Sena, for objectionable remarks against Samajwadi Party (SP) MP from Kairana Iqra Hasan. The FIR was lodged at the Katghar police station on the basis of a written complaint filed by SP leader Sunita Singh.
The controversy began when Rana allegedly made derogatory comments about the woman MP on social media. His statements triggered strong condemnation from the Samajwadi Party. On Saturday, a party delegation led by SP district president Jaiveer Singh met the SP City and demanded immediate action. During the meeting, Sunita Singh submitted a formal complaint stating that Yogendra Rana's comments publicly humiliated a woman parliamentarian and were a direct assault on her dignity.
In her complaint, Sunita emphasized that such remarks were not only disrespectful but also a violation of the core constitutional values of Indian society. She said that a person identifying as a leader should be held accountable for targeting a woman in public discourse.
Despite the backlash, Rana remained defiant. On Sunday, he again posted on his Facebook account, where he refused to apologize for his earlier statements. The post further intensified public anger.
SP City Kumar Ran Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 79 (insulting a woman's modesty) and 356(2) (defamation) , along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, which pertains to publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and further action will be taken as per the legal provisions, the officer said....
