Agra, Nov. 6 -- A case has been registered against five devotees, including a woman, for allegedly attacking a police head constable on duty at Banke Behari Temple in Vrindavan on Tuesday. Head constable Jagvendra Singh, who was deployed for crowd management, had complained about the matter at Vrindavan Kotwali police station. Superintendent of police (city) at Mathura, Rajeev Pratap Singh said Jagvendra was on duty for controlling the crowd of devotees coming at Banke Behari Temple. "The named devotees, including a woman, attacked the head constable Jagvendra and this could be seen in CCTV footage available. A case has been registered at Kotwali Vrindavan under the relevant sections of law and legal compliance is on," stated SP City. "There were reports that one of the accused is an army man and thus the Military police have been informed," stated Singh. The case has been registered under section 191(2) (rioting), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt), 132 (using criminal force against public servant), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of Bhartiya Nyayay Sanhita. The named accused are residents of Aliganj in Etah district and they are Abhay Singh, Sanjay Singh, Nirbhay Singh, Rahul Singh and Aruna Singh. They were blamed for beating the head constable and tearing up his uniform and targeting another constable Ajeet who came to his rescue. The incident had again brought to light the issues of crowd management at Banke Behari Temple where lakhs of devotees visit daily. The access to the temple is through narrow lanes and the temple premises too have limited space. The Supreme Court had recently constituted a High Powered Committee headed by retired High Court justice to see aspects related to the temple. The committee has held about half a dozen meetings and suggested certain measures but stalemate continues over effective steps suggested, including the enhancement of timing for darshan....
