PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 15 -- On Sunday morning in Paltan Bazaar of Pratapgarh, a dispute over land between an advocate and the family of a homeguard commandant escalated, leading to firing from one side. When the police arrived, the clash continued in their presence. The city police chief recovered the firearm and took the advocate into custody. A case has been registered against the advocate, his father, son, and three others for opening fire and spreading terror. A land dispute has been ongoing for several years between advocate Rakesh Mani Tripathi, a resident of Paltan Bazaar under Kotwali Nagar area, and Homeguard Commandant Vinod Singh. It is reported that a stay order on the land, in effect since 2012, is valid until January 5, 2026. On Sunday morning, when a tent was being erected on the disputed land for a function celebrating the birth of the advocate's grandson, Vinod Singh's family members objected. This led to a confrontation between the two sides. After an argument, a fight broke out. When UP 112 police personnel arrived, the fighting continued in their presence. Meanwhile, Rakesh Mani's son, Shashank Mani, fired a shot from his father's licensed .312 bore repeater rifle while standing on the roof of his house. Upon receiving information, Makandrugunj police outpost incharge Rahul Kumar, and SHO of Kotwal Nagar Subhash Yadav arrived and recovered Rakesh Mani's rifle. Several advocates also arrived upon hearing the news. The police took Rakesh Mani to the police station. Later, Vinod Singh's nephew, Vaibhav Singh, filed a case against Kailash Mani Tripathi, his advocate son Rakesh Mani, and Rakesh Mani's son Shashank Mani alias Bunty for firing and spreading terror.
