AGRA, June 9 -- A case has been registered against unidentified policemen for the alleged beating and harassment of an accused in police custody. The action follows a complaint made by the accused while being presented in court in Agra. The accused, identified as Imran alias Babua alias Babu alias Farooq, a resident of Shaheed Nagar, was arrested on May 31 after an encounter with Rakabganj police. Police claimed cow meat was recovered from him and that he had a criminal history, with 29 cases registered at various police stations in Agra district. A case was initially registered at Rakabganj police station under Sections 109(1)/61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy, along with Sections 3/25/27 of the Arms Act and relevant provisions of the Cow Slaughter Act.
