Case filed against 92 for road blockade, assault on police
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 21 -- Police have registered a case against 12 named individuals and 80 unidentified persons for allegedly abusing and manhandling police personnel who were attempting to clear a road blockade. The protesters had placed the body of a deceased young man on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway, demanding compensation. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Manikpur police station in Pratapgarh on Wednesday.
According to reports, Chhanne Saroj, a resident of Pure Ali Naki in Manikpur Nagar Panchayat, died in a road accident on the night of September 16. On September 18, while transporting Chhanne's body for cremation, the family and local residents stopped at the Sabhaganj intersection and blocked the highway by placing the body on the road.
Upon receiving information, police arrived at the protest site and attempted to remove the blockade. However, the protesters refused to comply and began demanding financial assistance and allotment of land in return.
The standoff ended after sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Vachaspati Singh assured the family that their concerns would be addressed. The protesters then cleared the road and proceeded with the funeral.
Following a complaint by Inspector Santosh Kumar Yadav, an FIR was lodged against 80 unidentified men and women, along with 12 named individuals.
