Haridwar, May 11 -- Months after an altercation between independent MLA from Khanpur Umesh Kumar and former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh "Champion", cross first information reports were registered wherein both accused each other of trying to damage their vehicles and threatening their lives, police said on Friday In a complaint filed at Manglaur police station, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kunwar Pranav Singh alleged that on Friday evening, while returning from Laksar to his residence at Rang Mahal in Landaura, one of Umesh Kumar's supporters attacked his vehicle near the Sonali bridge on Landaura Road. "This is deliberate provocation by Umesh Kumar. At a time when the nation is focused on the India-Pakistan conflict, he continues to engage in intimidation and violence. I have abided by the law and maintained peace ever since I was granted bail. Yet I am being targeted and provoked," said the four-time MLA. Meanwhile, Umesh Kumar filed a complaint alleging that it was Champion's supporters who attacked his vehicle near Mundakhera in Landaura instead on Friday evening. "My car was damaged when a vehicle from Pranav Singh's convoy deliberately rammed into it from behind. His supporters also pelted stones, damaging another vehicle. Despite spending nearly two months in jail, Kunwar Pranav has shown no change in behavior. I am being falsely targeted and my public image is being deliberately maligned," Umesh Kumar told media at his Roorkee Road camp office. Superintendent of police (Rural) Shekhar Chandra Suyal said cross FIRs were registered in the matter on Friday night and additional police personnel have been deployed at both leaders' camp offices. "Separate FIRs have been lodged at Laksar and Manglaur police stations based on complaints from both parties. Our investigation into the matter is underway, with CCTV footage and forensic evidence being examined," he said. The FIR was registered against Champion under sections 190, 191 (2), 324 (4), 351 (2) and 352 of the BNS at Laksar police station. Umesh Kumar was booked under sections 125, 131, 190, 191 (2), 191 (3), 324 (4), 351 (2) of BNS and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act. The confrontation is the latest in a series of public disputes between the two leaders. In April, both later took to social media, each claiming responsibility for bringing the State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (SIIDCUL) project to the area. On January 26, an altercation turned violent when Champion and his supporters allegedly opened fire at Kumar's camp office-cum-residence. Following the incident, Kumar also attempted to march towards Champion's house with a rifle. Both were arrested but Kumar was granted bail the next day while Champion was remanded to judicial custody....
