Car, mini-truck collide, catch fire; five dead
Agra, Sept. 24 -- Five people died after two vehicles caught fire following a head-on collision between them in the rural limits of Aligarh in the wee hours of Tuesday, police said. Four people in a car, all below 22 years of age, and the driver of a mini-truck died on the spot. One injured person was hospitalised.
Superintendent of police (SP)-Rural Amrit Jain said the car, bearing registration number DL3C BV 0844, went out of control and crashed with the road divider before colliding with the mini-truck bearing registration number UP 87T 3241, which was coming from the opposite side, near the Gopi flyover. After the mishap, both vehicles caught fire.
"The fire was doused, and bodies were removed from vehicles. They were sent for postmortem. Another car passenger was injured and sent to Hathras for treatment," Jain added.
The deceased were identified as Atul Yadav (19), Dev Sharma (22), Harshit Maheshwari (19), Mayank Pal aka Monu (22) and mini-truck driver Rajesh Kumar (35), who was from Nidholi Kalan in Etah. Atul, Dev and Harshit were from Sikandrarau in Hathras while Mayank was from Hasayan in Hathras. All five were friends.
The accident took place around 5.30 am. Police stated that while the exact reason for the car spiralling out of control was being investigated, the vehicle might have suffered a flat tyre while being driven.
Three people lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Tuesday morning when a speeding pickup truck crushed two women and a farmer on the Bahraich-Balrampur highway, under the jurisdiction of Dargah Police Station.
According to CO (city) Pahup Singh, the accident occurred around 6:30 am near the Suhapara intersection. The victims were rushed to Bahraich Medical College in critical condition, where doctors declared them dead.
The deceased were identified as Rajesh Kumar, 52, a resident of Suhapara, who was riding his bicycle to the fields, Santosh Kumari, 55, and Kanti Devi, 52, residents of Gaura Ashoka village, out on a morning walk.
Eyewitnesses said the two women were standing by the roadside conversing when the pickup truck, coming at high speed from Balrampur, hit them along with Rajesh Kumar. The impact threw them onto the road, leaving them grievously injured.
Station officer (Dargah) Ramagya Singh confirmed that the pickup truck had been seized, while the driver fled the scene. Police have launched a search to apprehend him....
