Camaraderie among teachers, candidates kept atmosphere cool
LUCKNOW, June 1 -- Candidates in the fray for Lucknow University Teachers' Association (LUTA) polls could be seen chatting with one another as they queued up to cast their vote on Saturday. Soon after, they settled outside the polling booth requesting their fellow faculty members to cast votes in their favour.
The friendly handshakes, short talks and convincing at the last moment continued throughout the duration of polling. Faculty members turned up at the polling booth in style. Some reached there with their friends while others turned up as per their department.
Once they had cast their votes, they gathered around for lunch and refreshment. Prof Keya Pandey, Ishdeep Kaur, Soni Verma and Poonam Tiwari, all from anthropology department, turned up to cast their vote together. "We thought it was a better idea to come together so that we can also get along with other faculty members. We are happy to see a greater number of women participating in the LUTA polls," said Pandey. On being asked that how candidates were moving around and maintaining a sportsman spirit, Prof. Ajay Kumar Arya said, "We are fighting the elections for the cause of bringing about a positive change but at the same time we have to maintain the decency and dignity of being a teacher." Similarly, Mamta Singh, who stood for the post of general secretary, said a harmonious atmosphere existed throughout the election.
Prof Rita Chaudhary and Ravi Kant, faculty members of Hindi department, said, "We came to practise our democratic right which continues to govern the teachers' body in a democratic manner."...
