Cabinet okays Vajpayee-Chevening scholarship
LUCKNOW, Aug. 8 -- The Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal for the launch of the "Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme"in collaboration with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), United Kingdom.
The scheme, named in memory of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will begin in the 2025-26 academic year and run for an initial period of three years, according to higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay.
Under the scheme, each year, five outstanding students from Uttar Pradesh will receive a full scholarship to pursue a one-year master's degree at a recognised university in the UK. The scholarship will cover academic fees, research costs, a monthly living allowance and a one-time economy class airfare. The students will be selected in accordance with an MoU signed between the Uttar Pradesh government and FCDO.
The total cost per student is estimated to be between £38,048 (Rs 44,62,521.39) and £42,076 (Rs 49,34,951.90). The Uttar Pradesh government will contribute £19,800 (approximately Rs.23,00,000) per student, with the remaining costs covered by the FCDO....
