Prayagraj, Dec. 13 -- A Kolkata-based businessman died after being hit by a truck while trying to save a young girl who ran across the road outside her home in Pratapgarh on Friday morning. Surendra Singh (55), a resident of Kamaluddinpur village under Antu police station, had returned from Kolkata about a month ago. Around 8 am on Friday, as he opened the gate of his house on the Lohianagar-Kalikadham Road, his brother's granddaughter suddenly ran towards the road while playing. Seeing a speeding truck approaching, Surendra rushed to save her and pushed her aside. The girl escaped unhurt, but Surendra fell on the road and was run over by the truck. He died on the spot. A case has been registered at Sarai Akil police station in Kaushambi against eunuchs from Prayagraj following a complaint lodged by the Mahant of the Kaushambi Kinnar Welfare Committee. Mahant Muskan Chauhan stated that members of her committee participate in district festivals and pray for public welfare. She alleged that eunuchs Kalyani and Nisha from Prayagraj, along with their associates, frequently visit Kaushambi to extort money from people in the name of nek. According to the complaint, when locals resist, the accused allegedly abuse and assault them. She further claimed that on November 25, the accused created a ruckus in Sarai Akil and even issued death threats when people protested against the extortion attempts. Sarai Akil SHO Veer Pratap Singh said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Action will be taken based on findings that emerge during the probe. The son of a retired army man, distressed by domestic discord, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train Pratapgarh on Friday, said the police. As per reports, the deceasd, a resident of Saifabad under Aspur Devsara police station area in Pratapgarh attempted suicide by jumping in front of a train near Chanda crossing on the Varanasi-Lucknow rail route on Friday morning. On receiving information, police rushed him to Sultanpur Hospital in critical condition, where he died during treatment. The deceased is said to be suffering from emotional distress due to domestic discord for some time. Two blue bulls (nilgai) were electrocuted and a villager seriously injured after coming into contact with an illegally installed electric wire fence around a field in Mahewa village under Karachhana police station late Thursday night. The victim later filed a complaint against three villagers for installing the live wire fence. According to police, the accused had erected bamboo poles and strung an electric wire around their fields. On Thursday evening, Sarvesh Yadav of Mahewa went to the field for some work, unaware that the wire was live. He received a severe electric shock upon touching it.
