LUCKNOW, Dec. 1 -- A 40-year-old woman was run over by a Uttar Pradesh state-run bus outside Charbagh railway station on Sunday morning. Police identified the victim as Sangeeta Rawat, a Class-IV employee with the Kanpur Municipal Corporation. She had come to Lucknow with her three children to attend a relative's housewarming ceremony. According to police, the family was crossing the road near the foot overbridge when the accident occurred. Sangeeta's eldest son, Rahul, said they signalled the approaching bus to let them cross. The bus reportedly halted briefly, allowing Rahul to move ahead, but then suddenly accelerated, hitting Sangeeta and running over her. She died on the spot. Her two younger children sustained minor injuries and were discharged after first aid. Eyewitnesses said the driver tried to flee but was chased and caught by locals, who beat him before handing him over to police. Some witnesses claimed he appeared intoxicated. Police have seized the bus, taken the driver into custody, and sent Sangeeta's body for post-mortem. Sangeeta, a resident of Shuklaganj in Unnao district, was the sole breadwinner for her family. At the post-mortem house, Rahul said, "The driver sped up suddenly. He ran the bus over my mother and tried to escape. My father died in 2022. My mother was the only one earning and taking care of us."...
