LUCKNOW, Oct. 25 -- A bus traveling from Anand Vihar, Delhi, to Muzaffarnagar in Bihar overturned on the Agra Expressway near the Lucknow toll plaza early Friday morning. The accident, which occurred around 4:30 am near the MahriNagar underpass, left around 12 passengers injured, though all were safely evacuated. The bus was carrying approximately 50 passengers when it lost control and overturned. Station house officer, Kakori Police station, Satish Chandra said that soon after the accident, the bus driver and the conductor fled from the scene as they were not present when the police arrived. He said that, as per the victims travelling on the bus, there is a suspicion that the driver might have fallen asleep, which could be the reason behind the bus overturning. The official said that police, along with the fire brigade team and bystanders, assisted in evacuating passengers from the overturned bus. While most passengers escaped unscathed, some sustained minor injuries and were treated at CHC Kakori. The official said that one seriously injured passenger, Sagar Kumar, 21, son of Mahendra Yadav from Gaya, Bihar, was referred to the Trauma Centre at the Medical College, where authorities confirmed his condition is stable. The official added that other passengers who received treatment for minor injuries include: Raja Kumar, 25, Badri Shah, 55, Mamta Kumar, 30, Aarav, 11, Preeti, 24, Vicky Kumar, 22, Roshni Vicky, 20, Arvind Kumar, 34, Rakesh, 36, Kajal, 31, and Naresh Kumar Mishra, 61. After receiving first aid, these passengers, along with others on the bus, were safely transported to their destinations with assistance from the bus company and another replacement bus. The overturned bus was later towed to the side of the expressway. Traffic at the scene has now returned to normal.
