Jhansi, July 6 -- A school bus carrying 32 students fell into a roadside canal on Saturday afternoon, injuring around a dozen children. The incident occurred near Semri village in the Moth area of Jhansi district. The bus, belonging to Rashtrakavi Maithilisharan Gupt Vidhyapeeth in Chirgaon, was returning after school hours when the accident took place. According to officials, the driver lost control of the vehicle after the steering wheel reportedly failed while navigating a narrow road alongside the canal. As a result, the bus veered off the road and plunged into the canal with the students-mostly young children-on board. Local villagers rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the children, some of whom were pulled out through the emergency exit and others through the windows. Upon hearing the news, anxious parents rushed to the spot. All students were initially taken to nearby community health centres, from where seven with more serious injuries were referred to Jhansi Medical College for further treatment. SSP (Jhansi), BBGTS Murthy, along with CMO Dr Sudhakar Pandey and other officials, visited the hospital to check on the children's condition. Preliminary investigations suggest that a mechanical failure in the steering system caused the accident. "There were 32 students on board, of which seven have been referred to medical college. The rest have been sent home," SSP Murthy said. HTC...
