Building collapse kills one, injures six in Fatehpur
Kanpur, May 3 -- A portion of the old Khadi Seva Sansthan building collapsed on Friday evening in Fatehpur, killing one woman and injuring six workers, police said.
Superintendent of police Dhaval Jaiswal said the incident occurred during reconstruction work. "Half the building had already been demolished.
Construction was underway when the undemolished section suddenly collapsed, trapping seven workers nearby," he said.
The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Shashi Devi. The injured were rescued and taken to hospital.
The building had been declared unfit for habitation three months ago. While reconstruction had started on the demolished section, the remaining portion was yet to be taken down.
Eight workers were present at the time, seated near the structure where concrete was being mixed. The old section collapsed with a loud noise, catching them off guard.
Authorities are investigating the cause and reviewing site safety measures....
