Buckle up for polls, pass the test at any cost: Cong MP
Dehradun, April 10 -- All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Uttarakhand in-charge Kumari Selja on Thursday asked party workers to gear up for the upcoming elections in the state, saying they must "pass this test at any cost".
Addressing party workers on the second day of her five-day Uttarakhand tour, Selja said success would come only if the party worked in line with people's aspirations. "There may be many contenders and aspirants, but we must all work as soldiers of the Congress, not of any individual," she said.
Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Selja alleged that it "cheated people" by making promises such as Rs.15 lakh in bank accounts and employment. "When they fail, they resort to divisive politics in the name of religion, spread fear and do not promote social harmony. The BJP and RSS have never given a message of brotherhood or 'sarv dharma sambhav'. Such narratives resurface during elections," she said. The BJP termed the visit of the Congress in-charge to Uttarakhand as a "political gimmick," alleging that the party is being run "remotely from Delhi."
