BSV: Sarangi, sarod, pakhawaj pupils will get 100% scholarship
Lucknow, June 25 -- People interested in learning sarangi, sarod or pakhawaj will receive a 100% scholarship at Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (BSV). This move was taken by the university after it was approved by the academic council of the university on Tuesday.
Vice-chancellor Mandavi Singh said the university has taken the move to promote 'endangered' musical instruments. "We are seeing a fall in the number of people learning to play sarangi, sarod and pakhawaj every year. So we decided to give a 100% scholarship to students enrolled in any course, be it undergraduate, postgraduate or diploma, related to these instruments," said Prof. Singh.
Also, the council gave nod to establish three research chairs in the memories of Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande, Pandit Birju Maharaj and Begum Akhtar and to promote research and cultivate a research environment in the university. Besides, the council also recommended awarding PhD degrees to eight researchers. The council also approved the establishment of a museum in the university where researchers can seek information and study materials regarding experimental music and related subjects.
Besides, an archival gallery will be established that will preserve the recordings of renowned artists associated with the university. BSV registrar Srishti Dhaon said the decisions made by the academic council would ensure that quality work was given top priority at the university....
