Haridwar, July 27 -- The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), once a significant political force in Uttarakhand, is looking to reclaim its lost ground ahead of the 2027 state Assembly elections and in a bid to revive its organisational structure and voter connect, the party is gearing up to form committees at district, sector, and booth levels across all 13 districts. Addressing party workers at a meeting in Shivalik Nagar on Friday, newly appointed state president Amarjeet Singh outlined his vision and conveyed directives from BSP national president Mayawati. "BSP has historically played a strong role in Uttarakhand's politics. We are now fully focused on the 2027 assembly polls. Equal attention will be given to all districts, and both senior and young leaders will be assigned responsibilities at every level," Singh said. BSP's Haridwar district president Madan Lal said the party secured two seats in 2022 assembly elections. He expressed confidence in expanding that tally by intensifying outreach efforts. "We will visit every block and as many villages as possible to spread the party's ideology and expose the failures of both BJP and Congress," he said. However, BJP leader and Haridwar city MLA Madan Kaushik dismissed BSP's claims, saying that the people of Uttarakhand have consistently chosen the BJP in every election, be it parliamentary, Assembly, or panchayat. "Neither Congress, BSP, UKD nor SP have any real prospects in 2027. The BJP will once again sweep the polls due to its development-driven governance. The opposition's statements will hold no ground," he said. Political observers say BSP's revival would require more than just rhetoric. Dr Vinay Thapliyal, head of the Political Science Department at SMJN PG College, said the party must seriously address ground-level engagement and internal factionalism. "Frequent changes in state leadership, inconsistent district units, and over-reliance on directives from the party high command in Lucknow have weakened BSP's base in the hill state," Thapliyal said. He added that the party needs to focus on raising local and social issues while strengthening its grassroots cadre to stand a real chance in the next assembly election....
