BSP ex-MLA, brother get 3-yr jail in 2016 cop assault case
GORAKHPUR, April 19 -- An MP/MLA court in Sant Kabirnagar on Saturday sentenced former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Mohammad Tabish Khan and his brother Iftekhar Khan to three years of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 4,000 each on the convicts, in a 2016 case related to the alleged assault of a police constable, officials said.
The verdict was delivered by Chief Judicial Magistrate and Special Judge Chetna Tyagi.
According to the FIR registered on January 26, 2016, the then MLA, along with around 20 supporters, allegedly entered Dharam Singhwa police station. An argument reportedly escalated into violence, during which a constable on duty was allegedly manhandled and his uniform torn.
Based on a complaint filed by constable Kamal Khan, an FIR was registered under IPC sections 147, 323, 332, 504 and 506, related to rioting, causing hurt, obstructing a public servant, intentional insult and criminal intimidation.
