BRD doctor loses Rs.71 L in fraud
Gorakhpur, Dec. 16 -- A senior doctor posted at Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur was allegedly cheated of more than Rs.71 lakh by a group of fraudsters in a fake real estate deal. The situation escalated dangerously on Monday when the doctor demanded his money back and was allegedly issued a death threat.
Following a complaint by the doctor, the police registered a criminal case and launched an investigation. According to Gulriha SHO Vijay Pratap Singh, Dr Durgesh Tripathi, was approached by a man identified as Manoj Yadav, who introduced himself as a hospital owner from Kushinagar and offered to help him purchase land.
The accused allegedly convinced the doctor that he owned several plots in the Pipraich area and other locations, persuading him to invest large sums of money. Dr Tripathi reportedly paid an advance of Rs.30 lakh in 2024 and later made additional payments, taking the total amount to over Rs.76 lakh, through both cash and bank transfers into accounts held by the accused and his associates.
Despite repeated assurances that the property sale deed (bainama) would be registered between Dussehra and Diwali, the land was never legally transferred. When Dr Tripathi demanded a refund, the accused allegedly began threatening him with serious consequences.
Acting on the complaint, Gulriha police have registered an FIR against five named suspects on charges of cheating, forgery, and criminal intimidation. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further details are expected to emerge....
