Agra, Oct. 11 -- In order to conserve about 200 heritage and cultural sites of Braj region, the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad has begun to draft a detailed action plan. A survey report was presented and discussed during a meeting held on Friday here in Mathura. The conservation drive is to begin with such heritage structures located on state government land in the Braj region. This heritage survey report, prepared by Design Associate Ink, was presented during a meeting presided over by vice chairman of Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad (UPBTVP) Shailja Kant Mishra. Notably, chief minister Yogi Adityanath is the chairman of UPBTVP. The report highlighted that according to the literature available, about 870 structures having cultural heritage value are located in Braj region. Physical verification of 570 was conducted and completed and out of these, 200 were shortlisted as structures of high importance on heritage parameters based on their religious and cultural value. Out of these 200, 71 monuments are on government land while ownership of 129 vests in private bodies or trusts. 'We owe a responsibility to preserve and conserve these structures of heritage value for generations to come. The aim should not be to protect only the structures but also keep alive the 'soul' of rich Braj culture. The visitors and devotees will be benefitted with such conservation of heritage," stated Shailja Kant Mishra. "For this, we will begin with conservation of heritage structures located on government land and thereafter we will reach out to conservation of structures located on land owned by individuals and trusts,"suggested vice chairman of UPBTVP. The status of these structures shortlisted was discussed.
