Boy dies by suicide after accusation over sharing girlfriend's photos
PRAYAGRAJ, March 30 -- A teenage boy died after allegedly consuming poison soon after a complaint was filed at a police station accusing him of sharing private photos and chats of his minor girlfriend on social media.
The boy had recently returned from Delhi with his father after completing his exams.
On Saturday, during Samadhan Diwas at Antu police station in Pratapgarh, a girl from the same village accompanied by her family, submitted a written complaint alleging that the teenager had shared their private photos and chats on Facebook and Instagram.
As the police were unable to trace the boy immediately, his father was called to the station. After being informed of the allegations, he returned home and reprimanded his son.
Soon after, the boy allegedly consumed poison. He was taken to a medical college and later referred to Prayagraj, where he died late that night.
The postmortem was conducted in Prayagraj, and the body was brought back to his home in Pratapgarh on Sunday evening.
Station house officer Abhishek Singh Sirohi said both the boy and the girl were minors, and their families had mutually agreed not to pursue legal action.
However, the boy took the extreme step before any settlement could be finalised. He added that if a formal written complaint is submitted later, a case will be registered.
Locals said that around six weeks ago, the two teenagers had secretly exchanged garlands at the Kalika Dham temple in Sangrampur,
Amethi, believing they were married. The matter surfaced later, sparking a dispute between the families, after which the boy was sent to his father in Delhi.
When he returned on Saturday, the girl's family approached the police, setting off the chain of events that led to the tragedy....
