LUCKNOW, Nov. 28 -- Bowlers did a fine job to help favourites Uttar Pradesh carve out a convincing seven-wicket win over Tripura in an Elite Group C encounter of the Women's Under-23 T20 Trophy, at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium at Lahli on Thursday. Sandhya Chhetri led Uttar Pradesh's attack with 2/14 as Tripure could score 91/9 while batting first after winning the toss. Pacer Garima Yadav continued with her good show with white ball, bagging 2/22, whereas Khushi Tyagi and Bhumi Singh took a wicket each. In fact, Tripura batters found the going tough from the very start as they kept losing wickets like ninepins before being reduced to 4/47 almost at the half-way mark. A 32-run fourth wicket stand between Ambesha Das (5) and Anamika Das (29, 33b, 4x4) remained the highest for the side. Sebika Das (13) and Antara Das (10) were the other two key run getters. In reply, it turned out to be just a formality as Uttar Pradesh batters riding high on some fine batting by Sampada Dixit romped home in 14.4 overs, losing just three wickets. Openers Varnika (12) and Sampada stitched together 29 runs for the opening wicket to give a good start to the run-chase. Sampada struck highest 41, which came off 39 balls with the help of three boundaries and a six. Shraddha Tiwari (18, 17b, 3x4) and Muskan Malik (2) remained unbeaten. Now with eight points in three matches, Uttar Pradesh take on Chandigarh at the Gurugram Cricket Ground in Sultanpur (Haryana) on Saturday. UP AIM BIG Table-topper and former champions Uttar Pradesh will aim to continue their winning streak in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, when they take on Jammu and Kashmir in their second match in the Elite Group B at Kolkata on Friday. Uttar Pradesh scripted a facile six-wicket win against lowly Goa in their opening match with opener Aryaj Juyal hitting an unbeaten 93 in 57 balls while chasing 173. Sameer Rizvi (38) and Priyam Garg (28) were the other key run getters for the side. It was pacer Shivam Mavi, who helped Uttar Pradesh restrict the rivals for 172/9 with 3/24, whereas former Team India pacer Bhuvenshwar Kumar made his presence felt with 2/23. But it would be altogether a different equation while playing against J&K, who also had an easy five-wicket win over Maharashtra in their opening game. J&K bowlers led by Auqib Nabi came up with fine show, bagging 3/28, and he was well supported by Yudhvir Singh (2/22), Umran Malik 92/24) and Abid Mushtaq (2/26) to get Maharashtra out for 130 in 19.5 overs. In reply, openers Qamran Iqbal (28) and captain Shubham Khajuria (26) set the tone, adding 48 runs for the first wicket, and thereafter even while losing wickets on regular intervals, they managed to reach home....
