PRAYAGRAJ, June 27 -- The body of a woman, accused of murder, was found in a well in Arai Sumerpur village of Charwa police station area in Kaushambi on Thursday morning. According to family members, her mental health had declined after her release from the jail. Police have sent the body for postmortem, and the family has not leveled any accusations against anyone. According to reports, Rekha Devi (30), a resident of Adhara village under the Karari police station area, along with her husband Ranjish Kumar and brother Mithun, was jailed in June 2024 on charges of murdering a youth named Chhotu alias Vijay, who lived in their neighborhood. According to police, the trio disposed of the youth's body in the Nawabganj area of Prayagraj after committing the murder, which was allegedly driven by suspicion of an affair. Rekha Devi was released from jail in March 2025. Her family members stated that her mental health began to deteriorate after her release, and she had gone missing from home on several occasions. She went missing under suspicious circumstances on the evening of June 24, prompting her family to search for her throughout the night. Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, her body was found in a muddy well in Arai Sumerpur (Nat ka Dera) village, located a short distance from her home. Upon spotting the body, some shepherds alerted others. Police also arrived, with the help of the fire brigade, retrieved the body from the well and sent it for postmortem.
