Body of journalist who went missing recovered in Uttarkashi
Dehradun, Sept. 29 -- Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Sunday recovered the body of a local journalist, who went missing on September 18, from Joshiyara barrage on Bhagirathi river in Uttarkashi district.
The deceased, identified as Rajiv Pratap (36), ran a 'Delhi Uttarakhand Live' YouTube channel. The FIR for his disappearance was registered at Uttarkashi police station on September 20 under section 140 (3) (Kidnapping or abduction with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of his uncle Kripal Singh.
Singh in the complaint said, "Rajiv Pratap is a well known journalist in Uttarkashi and runs a Delhi Uttarakhand Live channel. He took his friend Soban Singh's Alto car on September 18 and went towards Gangori from Uttarkashi bus stand.
The car was recovered from Bhagirathi river near Gangori on September 19.
Singh said, "He was a fearless journalist and did reporting on several issues in Uttarkashi. Many people didn't like him and were his enemies. He was even pressured to take down a video he made about the poor state of Uttarkashi hospital. Also, there was no reason for him to go towards Gangori on September 18.
SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi said, "On September 19, the District Control Room, Uttarkashi, informed us about a vehicle spotted in the Bhagirathi river near Gangori, possibly with a driver inside. Acting on the information, our team immediately reached the site with the required rescue equipment and launched a search operation in the river, but the person could not be located."
"The team continued an intensive search across the river and nearby areas for several days. On Sunday, the body was recovered from the Joshiyara Barrage. It was then handed over to the district police for further action."
Superintendent of police Uttarkashi Sarita Dobhal said, "We have found no visible injury marks on the deceased's body. The body has been sent for postmortem and further action will be taken accordingly."...
