BMC anti-encroachment drive in Kutubkhana Mandi
MEERUT, Nov. 30 -- The Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a late-night encroachment removal drive in Kutubkhana Mandi on Friday, deploying bulldozers under heavy security after complaints were raised in the District Udyog Bandhu meeting about roadside occupation in the market.
Officials said two bulldozers, along with a magistrate, police personnel, and the enforcement team, reached the vegetable market around 10 pm. The operation continued for nearly two hours as roadside stalls and extended structures were dismantled.
Shopkeepers and vendors whose setups were removed gathered in large numbers and opposed the action. Several threatened to hold a sit-in to stop the demolition, but the drive continued till midnight.
Vendors claimed the removal was unjust, alleging they paid a daily fee of Rs 60 to the corporation and had official receipts. They accused civic officials and the district administration of acting arbitrarily despite their payments.
BMC junior engineer Anurag Kamal said the operation followed fresh complaints raised through the District Udyog Bandhu forum.
"This drive is based on those complaints and will continue in the future as well. We are acting on issues raised through IGRS and written submissions," he added....
