VARANASI, June 27 -- The BLW (Banaras Locomotive Works) has manufactured 3,300 horsepower Cape gauge diesel-electric locomotive that will run on Mozambique's tracks, said BLW public relations officer Rajesh Kumar. During the year 2021-22 and 2022-23, 6 diesel engines (3000 HP AC-AC) were successfully supplied by BLW to Mozambique's railway company CFM, which are currently in successful operation there. In view of the excellent and reliable performance of the locomotives sent earlier, Mozambique Railways (CFM) has awarded another major contract to BLW. This new contract has been awarded through M/s RITES for manufacturing and supply of 10 state-of-the-art 3300 HP AC-AC diesel-electric locomotives. Out of these 10 locomotives, 2 locomotives have been successfully delivered to Mozambique in June 2025, while the remaining 8 locomotives are scheduled to be delivered by December 2025. These locomotives are capable of running at a maximum speed of 100 kmph on Cape Gauge (1067 mm). These 3,300 HP AC-AC diesel-electric locomotives manufactured by BLW are not only technologically advanced but also come with a number of driver-friendly amenities including refrigerator, hot plate, mobile holder, aesthetically pleasing cab design, toilet facilities. These features not only ensure driver comfort but also reflect the quality of the workplace at par with international standards.
