Lucknow, June 15 -- On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day (14 June), blood donation camps were organised at various hospitals in the state capital. Doctors, hospital staff and the public participated enthusiastically, donating blood at these camps on Saturday. The department of transfusion medicine at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) organised a voluntary blood donation camp and a registration drive for voluntary platelet donors to support patients with cancer and other life-threatening conditions requiring platelet transfusions, stated a press release shared with the media. Prof RK Dhiman, director of SGPGIMS, felicitated 50 voluntary blood donors and donor organizations. Prof Priti Elhence, head of the department of transfusion medicine, elaborated on the importance of voluntary blood donation and its crucial role in saving lives. Other notable attendees included Dr Devendra Gupta, chief medical superintendent (CMS); Dr Rajesh Harshvardhan, medical superintendent (MS); Shri Prakash Singh, finance officer; Dr Prashant Agarwal, Dr Dheeraj Khetan and Dr Bharat Singh. Meanwhile, a blood donation camp was also organised at Lok Bandhu Raj Narain Hospital (LBRNH) in collaboration with the Shivraj Helping Hand Foundation. The camp was inaugurated by the hospital's director, Sangeeta Gupta, and was attended by Dr Rajeev Dixit, chief medical superintendent (CMS). Dr Dixit stated that 30 people registered for the blood donation, with 15 successfully donating blood.
