MEERUT, Dec. 4 -- A 25-year-old booth-level officer (BLO) engaged in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls allegedly attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Meerut on Tuesday. His family alleged that he was being harassed and threatened by his supervisor, officials said. A clerk in the irrigation department, the BLO was rushed to a private hospital, where his condition was reported to be critical. Deputy district election officer Satya Prakash Singh said the matter would be investigated. "No concrete evidence of harassment has emerged yet," he added. His family alleged that the supervisor repeatedly called him, pressuring him to submit enumeration forms and allegedly threatening to suspend him for any delay. Distressed by repeated warnings, he allegedly attempted to poison himself to death while working at a booth. A relative alleged that the BLO called him just 30 minutes before consuming poison, complaining about harassment and suspension threats from the supervisor....
