LUCKNOW, June 25 -- Farmers affiliated with the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Shramik Janshakti) took to the city streets here on Monday, demanding immediate government action against counterfeit agricultural products. The protest highlighted growing concerns over spurious seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides affecting farmers across Uttar Pradesh. The march began at Parivartan Chowk and was halted near Hazratganj by heavy police barricades. Demonstrators staged a dharna outside KD Singh Babu Stadium, raising slogans, as tensions mounted in the area. "It's shameful that the food producers of this nation are forced to protest," BKU (Shramik Janshakti) president Kamlesh Yadav said. He said even top officials were deceived during recent raids, raising questions about the safety of rural farmers. The protesters accused agriculture officers of inaction and demanded improvements in irrigation, electricity supply, cattle shelter conditions, and transparency in farm schemes.
