BKT villagers assault police; FIR against three
LUCKNOW, March 31 -- A police team was allegedly attacked by villagers in Kalyanpur village under Itaunja police station limits on Sunday, with personnel beaten using sticks and pelted with stones. Women were also part of the mob and allegedly tore uniforms and hit policemen with slippers, officials said on Monday.
The incident came to light after a 26-second CCTV clip surfaced on Monday, showing a group surrounding a few policemen and hurling stones and slippers at them.
Based on a complaint filed by a home guard accompanying the team, an FIR (first information report) has been registered against three named accused and several unidentified persons at Itaunja police station.
Jitendra Singh, assistant commissioner of police, Bakshi Ka Talab, said efforts are on to identify and arrest the accused.
"A case has been registered and raids are being conducted to nab those involved," he said.
In the viral footage, a woman can be seen striking at the personnel from the front, while others in the crowd join the assault.
A man carrying wooden sticks is also seen approaching the spot.
According to police, the team had reached the village after receiving a Dial 112 call from a local resident alleging illegal construction on government land.
"However, on reaching the spot, the claim was found to be false, with construction taking place at the entrance of a private house," read the complaint copy.
When police objected to the alleged false information and refused to intervene, the caller and his associates became aggressive and attacked the team.
Officials said women also joined in, abused the policemen and damaged their uniforms. The personnel somehow managed to escape and return safely....
