Meerut, Nov. 29 -- A wedding celebration in Khanpur village of Bulandhshar district turned tragic on Thursday night when a BJP worker was shot dead during celebratory firing at the dwar-puja ceremony. The bullet was fired from a licensed pistol belonging to the bride's cousin, identified as Sugreev Solanki. According to locals, the incident occurred when Solanki was firing shots into the air as part of wedding rituals. A bullet pierced the arm and chest of BJP worker Dharmendra Bhati, 36, who was seated on a chair directly in front of him. Bhati collapsed instantly, causing panic among those present. Someone from the baraat informed the police, who arrived and sent the body for post-mortem. The deceased, Dharmendra Bhati, hailed from Ajaynagar and was an active BJP worker.
