bjp top brass meet amid buzz over election for party prez
NEW DELHI, Dec. 4 -- A high level meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP brass on Wednesday stoked speculation that the much-awaited organisational appointments, including that of national president and state unit presidents in two key states, could be announced soon.
The tenure of current president JP Nadda, appointed in 2020, was extended in view of the 2024 general elections. The appointment of state unit chiefs is also awaited in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka, two states that send 80 and 28 lawmakers to Parliament, respectively.
On Wednesday, PM met Union home minister Amit Shah, Nadda and national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh, but there was no formal statement from BJP about meeting's agenda or outcome.
Since Santhosh was in UP this week, meeting state leaders to finalise the name of the new state president, it was speculated that the meeting with senior leaders was in the context of the new appointments. Santhosh, with RSS national coordinator Arun Kumar, was in Lucknow recently to meet CM Yogi Adityanath, deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak and senior state leaders. htc...
