VARANASI, May 20 -- The BJP will commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of Rani Ahilyabai Holkar with a series of programmes from May 21 to 31 across all districts in India, as per the directive of party president JP Nadda, said Varanasi district in-charge and MLC Arun Pathak. At a press conference with Kashi city BJP president Pradeep Agrahari, Pathak said activities like speech, essay, debate, rangoli, painting and running competitions will be held for girls at school and college levels to promote women empowerment. Seminars on Rani Ahilyabai Holkar's life and her contribution to Indian culture will also be organised. Aartis will be performed at ghats and temples restored by her, followed by floral tributes. Exhibitions and conferences will be held at block and district levels, including at universities and colleges with NGO support. Agrahari called Rani Ahilyabai a symbol of courage, devotion, and cultural revival, noting her restoration of pilgrimage sites from Kashi to Rameshwaram during foreign invasions. He said the present-day Kashi Vishwanath temple is the same that she built between 1777-1780, a legacy acknowledged by PM Modi in 2021 during the Dham corridor inauguration.
