BJP promoting 'hooliganism' to dominate nation: Tikait
PRAYAGRAJ, March 29 -- Rakesh Tikait, farmer leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) (Tikait faction), on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of promoting "hooliganism" in politics, claiming the ruling party is attempting to establish dominance across the country through questionable tactics.
Addressing the media at Prayagraj Junction during a visit to the trans-Ganga region, Tikait reacted to recent West Bengal tensions following chief minister Mamata Banerjee's comments about the BJP "crossing limits." The party at the Centre was attempting to establish dominance nationwide, he alleged, though such tactics would fail in West Bengal.
The BKU spokesperson further claimed the BJP attempts to influence candidate selection in opposition parties during elections. He further alleged the party is testing "Hindu-Muslim polarisation" strategies in constituencies including Sambhal and Mathura ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. "Voters are increasingly becoming aware of such tactics," Tikait said.
When asked about his political alignment for 2027, Tikait said, "I will exercise my voting rights as an ordinary citizen, regardless of where my supporters stand."
Shifting to development issues, Tikait welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration of Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport), calling it a major achievement for UP. He noted that the rising population and air traffic would increase demand for such infrastructure.
