BJP MLA felicitated in House of Lords
Lucknow, June 9 -- BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh has been felicitated for 'Excellence in Political and Public Life' award in the House of Lords, in London, for Contributions to Law and Governance.
"The 'Excellence in Political and Public Life' Award - has been conferred for my constant dedication to my constituency," said Singh, who is MLA from Sarojini Nagar assembly segment.
"I am honoured to be at the historic House of Lords, Palace of Westminster, London - a revered foundation of British heritage, a pillar of democracy, and a guardian of constitutional wisdom," said Singh.
"I was grateful for the opportunity on June 5 to listen to leading legal minds and intellectuals at the "Arbitrating Indo-UK Commercial Disputes - 3rd Edition" as a special invitee at the ICA London Conference 2025," added Singh.
"My journey has been one of diverse service. As a law enforcer in the police force and Enforcement Directorate handling FEMA and PMLA cases; as a practising lawyer addressing NGT and NCLAT issues for my constituency; and as a lawmaker, contributing to the State Capital Region Act (SCR) and the stricter 2024 Uttar Pradesh Unlawful Conversion of Religion Amendment," said Singh.
He added that in this era of global tariff and trade war, the UK-India Free Trade Agreement stands as a powerful catalyst.
A strong legal framework will be key for regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, and WTO coordination, where the UK India Legal Partnership (UKILP) will play a major role, said Singh.
He added that exports from the state have surged from Rs 84,000 crore in 2017 to Rs 1.70 lakh crore today.
"By leveraging the UK-India FTA and ongoing reforms, and with the right push, the state can aim to double this figure in the next 3-5 years," asserted Singh....
