BJP leader Joshi surrenders in Ramnagar assault case
Haldwani, Nov. 26 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Madan Joshi, who was absconding in the Ramnagar meat assault case, surrendered before the police on Tuesday, officers familiar with the matter said.
The case pertains to an October 23 incident in the Chhoi area of Ramnagar, where a mob allegedly attacked Nasir Hussain, a pickup driver transporting meat from Bareilly. Hussain was beaten severely and his vehicle vandalized. Based on a complaint filed by Hussain's wife, Noorjahan, the police registered a case, in which 15 people have been arrested so far.
According to officers, Ramnagar police had been conducting raids at multiple locations over the past several days to locate Joshi. However, Joshi himself walked into the station, and surrendered before Inspector Sushil Kumar. As news of his surrender spread, several BJP leaders, including MLA Diwan Singh Bisht, reached the police station and raised slogans in Joshi's support. MLA Bisht said Joshi was a senior BJP functionary and former Mandal president who had "always respected the law". He added that Joshi had complied with the high court's directions by surrendering....
