BJP hits out at Dotasra's claims of speaker 'snooping' on Oppn
Jaipur, Sept. 15 -- Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari on Sunday strongly condemned Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra's allegation that Speaker Vasudev Devnani was "snooping" on women legislators through spy cameras inside the Assembly.
Speaking to newspersons in Udaipur, Kumari termed Dotasara's comments "very wrong" and "disrespectful" towards the Speaker. "He used very low-level words about our Speaker. This reflects his mentality. I also sit there and I have never felt unsafe inside the Assembly or its premises. Cameras have been there since before, so this is not a new thing. Using such abusive language for the Speaker, who holds a very respectable position, was uncalled for. I strongly condemn what he said," she remarked.
Kumari added that she has always felt safe within the Assembly and rejected the opposition's narrative of women legislators being monitored.
Commenting on the recent monsoon session, the Deputy CM accused the Congress of neglecting public concerns. "They should have raised issues affecting people, but instead they remained absent in debates and did not participate in more than half of the bills passed. Even during the heavy rainfall and flooding, they hardly spoke about people's problems. They only want to indulge in politics and vote bank games, not public welfare," she said. Dotasra on Saturday accused Devnani of snooping on the women legislators from his restroom through the 'spy cameras' which the Congress has recently alleged the government has installed inside the state assembly.
During a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters in Jaipur, he said, "Two to three leaders of Congress might definitely be under their radar. But, the Speaker's main intention behind installing these cameras to snoop on our women MLAs from his restroom. He wants to see what they do, what they wear, It is extremely shameful."
Meanwhile, during a press conference on Sunday, the education minister Madan Dilawar also labelled Dotasra as the 'kingpin' of the 'characterless gang'. He said, "One judges others based on their own character. Go to Dotasra's village, you will get several examples of his characterlessness. We must remember that the (auxiliary nurse) Bhanwari Devi was also raped by some Congres leaders (in September 2011). Rahul Gandhi was also seen keeping hands on the shoulders of the women during his yatra. Dotasra must look at himself before commenting on a respected political leader." Dilawar also added: "Didn't Dotasra install any camera at Congress party office ? So, he must be watching his women leaders from his own office through those cameras. This is why he felt that Devnani is also doing the same. It is extremely shameful." Commenting on the development, the Congress spokesperson, Swarnim Chaturvedi, said, "First, the government must clarify why those spy cameras were installed and why the access of those footage is limited only to Devnani. Instead of giving such lectures, they should ask their Speaker about his actions."...
