BJP fostering divide between hills and plain regions: Cong
Haridwar, Nov. 24 -- Leaders of the state Congress on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to create a rift between the hill and plain regions of Uttarakhand and using Hindu-Muslim polarisation to consolidate its vote base ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Addressing party workers, state Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal said, "The BJP has been fuelling the hill-plain divide only to serve its political interests. It is misleading people in both regions through divisive politics. The Congress will not allow this at any cost and will expose the real face of the BJP."
He also announced that the Congress would soon launch a state-wide agitation highlighting what it described as the worsening condition of health services in Uttarakhand.
Harish Rawat alleged that the BJP poses a "threat to the secular and federal structure" of the country. "In the past two Assembly elections, it tried to polarise voters by raising issues like the so-called Muslim University and by branding me as a pro-Muslim leader. But now voters are seeing the reality. Under Ganesh Godiyal's leadership, all party leaders are determined to oust the BJP government from the state," Rawat said.
Reacting to the Congress leaders' allegations, former chief minister and BJP MP from Haridwar, Trivendra Singh Rawat dismissed the Opposition's allegations. "The faction-ridden Congress has suffered heavy defeats in the last three parliamentary elections and the past two Assembly polls. The BJP, on the other hand, relies on development- oriented governance supported by a strong cadre- based structure. The Congress's top leaders losing badly in recent elections is proof of its current condition," he said....
