BJP expels its Gonda dist president Kashyap after row over viral video
Lucknow, June 12 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party's Uttar Pradesh leadership on Wednesday expelled its Gonda district president Amar Kishore Kashyap, following a controversy surrounding a viral video.
The video, which surfaced on social media on May 25, allegedly shows Kashyap with a woman party worker inside the BJP's Gonda office. The footage reportedly dates back to the night of April 12.
After the video went viral, Kashyap had publicly admitted he was the person seen in the video, stating that he was merely helping the woman who had felt dizzy. The woman, too, later came forward to clarify the situation, referring to Kashyap as her "brother" and lodging a police complaint against those who circulated the video with "malicious intent". The case is under investigation by the police.
Despite these clarifications, party leaders and workers expressed strong displeasure during MLC and UP BJP vice-president Vijay Bahadur Pathak's visit to Gonda on June 7. Some even boycotted an internal meeting in protest. Following the visit, Pathak submitted a detailed report to the state leadership.
In response, the party asked Kashyap to explain his position. He submitted his reply on May 28. However, finding the explanation unsatisfactory, BJP's state general secretary and headquarters in-charge Govind Narayan Shukla announced Kashyap's expulsion from the party on Wednesday morning.
"A show-cause notice letter No. 05/BJPUP/2025 dated 25.05.2025 was issued to you, asking for your explanation. However, the explanation sent by you was not satisfactory. Your act falls under the category of gross indiscipline. Therefore, as per the directions of the hon'ble state president, you are hereby immediately expelled from the party," the expulsion letter said.
Reacting to the expulsion, Kashyap appeared before the media and accused the party of acting unilaterally without a proper investigation....
