Dehradun, July 28 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) termed the state government's recommendation of a CBI probe in the Loni Urban Multi-State Credit & Thrift Co-operative Society (LUCC) fraud case as part of its "resolve against corruption", two days after Congress raised question over the government's stand in the case. BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt said, "The arrest of over 200 personnel involved in corruption and the recommendation of a CBI inquiry in the LUCC case is a part of our government's resolve against corruption. Our government, MPs, MLAs, workers, are all making efforts with commitment to build a corruption-free Uttarakhand." "CM Dhami has a zero tolerance policy against corruption. Under his leadership, the BJP government is taking strict action in corruption cases. The government has cleaned up the system, which was earlier marred by corruption...A toll-free number and vigilance desk established on CM's instructions for hearing against corruption cases are yielding excellent results," he added. He added, "Orders for a CBI investigation into the LUCC cooperative chit fund fraud are part of our government's anti-corruption campaign. Earlier too, police and CB-CID arrested eight company employees based on public complaints." Eight cases have been registered in Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, and Rudraprayag, and at least a dozen people have been arrested, police officers said, adding that multiple complaints alleged that the society defrauded investors across 35 branches in the state by promising high returns. The investigation into the matter was being carried out by the Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) unit of Dehradun. Senior vice president of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee, Suryakant Dhasmana, alleged that influential leaders of the BJP were involved in the multi-crore LUCC chit fund "scam", and attempts were being made to shield the accused from a central investigation. Dhasmana said, "There is clear patronage and involvement of influential BJP leaders in the LUCC scam in Uttarakhand and across the country. That is why people associated with the BJP are speaking in two voices to prevent any probe by a central agency. This has also exposed the internal power tussle within the party."...
