Lucknow, Nov. 18 -- A play 'Dharti Aba Birsa Munda', based on the life of Birsa Munda, written by Chitra Mohan and directed by Gyaneshwar Mishra Gyani, was staged by Rangyatra theatre group as part of Bhagidari Utsav, at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, on Monday. The play began with Munda turning up while sharing how he fought the economic struggle, adopted Christianity after completing his primary education and got further education, but due to his attachment to his soil and his caste, he left Christianity. Later, it was depicted how he started a rebellion against the British where a reward of Rs 500 was placed on Birsa - a considerable sum at the time. He was captured and later he was poisoned in prison where he died. The colonial government declared that Munda had died of cholera, but no evidence of cholera was found in his body. HTC...
