Bike lifters' gang busted, 3 juveniles, 2 others held
PRAYAGRAJ, April 1 -- The Handia police station team busted a bike theft gang during a vehicle checking operation late Monday night here. Two accused have been arrested, while three juveniles have been taken into police custody in this connection. The police team has recovered five stolen motorcycles from the gang's possession, said DCP (trans-Ganga) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat at the Reserve Police Lines on Tuesday.
DCP Gunawat said that during late-night checking on Monday near Saidabad trisection, the police received information about suspicious individuals near the Power House canal culvert. Acting swiftly, the police team surrounded the area and arrested Shailendra Patel of Prayagraj's Uttaraon area, along with detaining two minors. A stolen motorcycle was recovered from them.
Based on his interrogation, the police later arrested Teerth Saroj from Prayagraj's Nawabganja area near Bheski culvert and took another minor into custody. Four more stolen motorcycles were recovered from that location, DCP added.
As per officials during questioning, the accused confessed that they used to roam in different areas during the day and stole motorcycles whenever they found an opportunity. They would then hide the stolen bikes at different locations, change the number plates, and scratch off the chassis numbers before selling them when they got a suitable price.
Both arrested accused were previously involved in bike theft cases. Cases are already registered against them at Sarai Inayat and Phaphamau police stations, officials added....
