Bihar man held for diverting81,800 ketamine ampoules
LUCKNOW, Sept. 14 -- As part of their ongoing crackdown, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), Lucknow, has arrested a Bihar resident for his alleged role in the diversion of 81,800 ampoules of ketamine, officials confirmed on Saturday. The arrest was made during an operation carried out on Thursday and Friday based on specific intelligence from the CBN's Gwalior headquarters.
Ketamine injections, though approved as an anaesthetic and sometimes used off-label to treat severe depression and chronic pain, are also misused as narcotics. The accused was allegedly diverting the injections to different gangs for illegal purposes. A senior CNB official informed that the arrested accused was identified as Manoj Kumar, a resident under Vishwavidalaya police station limits in Bihar's Darbhanga district. The seized 81,800 ampoules weighed about 818 kg, with an estimated value of around Rs.81.8 lakh at Rs.10 lakh per kg."After receiving a specific intelligence input that the accused was actively involved in illegally procuring and secretly diverting the illicit ketamine injection with different batch numbers, teams from CNB, Lucknow, and Ghazipur were sent to Darbhanga. The accused was nabbed after two days of rigorous efforts," the official said."Further interrogation revealed discrepancies in sale and purchase and confirmed diversion of the contraband. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway," he added....
